Spirea is an old landscape staple, so what could one do that could possible earn it superlatives? Well, seedless and non-invasive would be a start; non-stop blooming would be even better. And these are exactly what makes Double Play Doozie spirea the most beautiful, innovative, ground-breaking spirea to ever grace a landscape. Like all of the Double Play® spirea series, the show begins in early spring, when the foliage emerges in blazing brilliant color – in this case, deep red. By late spring, the flowers begin to emerge, a bright, glowing purple-red that truly sings in the landscape. And as summer comes on, the show doesn’t stop: it just keeps flowering, and flowering, and flowering. Because it produces no seeds, it puts all of its energy into flowering! It does it all with the same good looks, drought tolerance, and deer resistance that you expect from spirea, too.

The Orange Rocket Barberry from the Southern Living Plant Collection elevates gardens to new heights! During spring, young foliage emerges as a vivid coral. This soft foliage matures through Summer becoming an eye-catching scarlet-red. Afterward, it features one more color change before the winter sets in. You’ll see the scarlet-red leaves age to an elegant ruby red. This adds even more vivid red hues to your fall landscape. Like most Barberries, this variety features small sharp thorns on the branches.
Once established, this fast-growing plant proves itself to be quite hardy. It’s also drought tolerant. In fact, its low-water requirements make it perfect for Xeriscape gardens.
It grows in a column-like shape that reaches around 4′ H x 1.5′ W. This vertical growth habit presents unique opportunities in the landscape. Horizontal growth steers the eye over a landscape. Vertical growth gives the eye a reason to pause. This allows the viewer to absorb the colors and textures of the scene presenting itself.
This barberry shines as a border, slope plant, mass planting, or in a container. Mix in a few as accents in a foundation planting. They’ll take your home’s curb appeal to the next level!

The Red Diamond Loropetalum is another tremendous evergreen shrub from the Southern Living Plant Collection! The Red Diamond Loropetalum produces candy red blooms in early spring. These are truly the reddest blooms of all loropetalum cultivars, and they contrast beautifully with their dark foliage. Watch these blossoms engulf the shrub, completely changing its appearance during the bloom cycle. After the considerable initial bloom, this loropetalum will periodically rebloom from early summer to fall. Meanwhile, the purple and burgundy leaves hold their color all year long, providing dynamic color in any landscape.
New growth emerges in spring as a soft purple before maturing to dark purple to burgundy.
The Red Diamond Loropetalum reaches a mature size of 6′ tall and 6′ wide. Therefore, this variety won’t engulf its surroundings like some other Loropetalums. Additionally, this naturally compact growth habit ensures that pruning is optional or infrequent.
Use this low-maintenance shrub as a hedge, container, accent, or mass planting!

The White Wedding Hydrangea is a dynamite new addition to the Southern Living Plant Collection! This hydrangea produces gorgeous cone-shaped white blooms every summer that are guaranteed to steal the show in your landscape. These large flower clusters have a crisper white hue than many popular Paniculata hydrangeas on the market today. These blooms are also quite long-lived. Therefore, they’re absolutely ideal for a cut flower arrangement.
The foliage on the White Wedding is soft in appearance and plentiful. The leaves emerge light green and mature to a medium hue and provide reliable growing season color and texture in the landscape. Furthermore, this variety is naturally compact. So shaping and pruning are largely unnecessary!
